5 Advanced Laboratories for Research and Development
Cell Culture Laboratory and Laboratory of Immunology and Salivary Biochemistry
The laboratory studies the molecular, biological and morphological aspects of oral diseases, tests the biocompatibility of dental materials and analyses cell signalling pathways in a clean environment with controlled flows of personnel and materials.
Digital Dentistry Laboratory
The PLANMECA iSim simulators, launched in 2022, support the transition from preclinical training to clinical practice by replicating a complete dental unit. The integrated digital equipment includes scanners, CAD/CAM software, milling machines, 3D printers and high-performance computers, providing students with advanced training in dentistry.
Microbiology Laboratory
The microbiology laboratory has advanced equipment, including a Shimatzu spectrophotometer, PCR equipment, a Class II biological safety cabinet, autoclaves, incubators and freezers (-30°C and -80°C), ensuring accurate measurements, effective sterilisation and sample preservation.
Restorative Dentistry Simulation Laboratory
The simulation laboratory provides a realistic environment that enhances teaching and the development of students’ practical skills. Modern simulators support ergonomic and efficient performance of a range of dental procedures, helping students bridge theory and practice.
Laboratory for the Assessment and Development of Skills and Competencies
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Research and Development in Dentistry (C.I.C.D.S.) is an academic research unit established to bring together professional expertise across UMFCD and conduct high-quality scientific research in dentistry. The mission and work of C.I.C.D.S. centre on basic and applied research in dentistry, with a focus on strengthening the capacity to generate new knowledge and provide the scientific foundation for advances in dentistry, while improving the quality of continuing education for students, doctoral candidates and resident physicians, alongside the development of innovative methods, procedures, techniques and materials.
